Album Info:Photos by my dad, Edwin Gose. These are temporary scans of my dad's original prints. I'll get better scans made....The Oct 3,1960 pics show my mom and dad out with the crew to fetch U.S. Steel's Governor Miller, and bring her to the front side of dock 1. Edna G still had it's silver stack in 1960. Pics of my family with the Edna G (summer '73) show us going out to fetch one of the northshore's other future museum boats, U.S. Steel's good ole William A. Irvin ('Big Bill'). I was 3 years old then. I still remember very vividly that first whistle blast when we were leaving the dock to go out to fetch the Irvin, and I got scared out of my wits and burried my ears under my dad's arms while we were sitting on the couch in the pilot house. Too bad my dad didn't have his movie camera that day! I have more of my dad's Edna G stuff to still dig out of the basment. My dad was a tour guide on the Edna G -summer '04 and '05. Fun times to hang out with my dad in the pilot house years after we had our rides on the Edna G, blow the whistle (albeit with compressed air - just not the same as Edna G's sweet sounding steam toots ), and climb down into the boiler room. Thanks to my mom and dad with being aquainted with Capt. Ojard, back in the early 60s, we were able to have family outings ( while camping at Gooseberry campground ) riding on the Edna G and fetch some ore boats. As a side note as a matter of interest: round the clock operations on the Edna G ran with 3 crews running 8 hours each ( up until the late 70s ). A typical Edna G crew consisted of the captain(naturally), engineer, fireman, and 1 lineman. The fireman could also double as a lineman. Adolph Ojard, was the lead captain (and in charge of the whole Edna G operations dept in general ), while his brother Ed Ojard, was the chief engineer. Ed Ojard's son Mike, has recently begun his own tug boating operation in Duluth. Ed Ojard and Capt. Iver Peterson were a hilarious duo when working on the Edna G.....

Title:  Edna G
Description:  Edna G's cylinder chest painted with a classy looking maroon. It was painted an awful plum color, when it was at Fraser Shipyards for hall repairs back in the 90s. I haven't been on the Edna G since it's hall was repainted back to it's proper high contrast maroon and the pilot house and forecastle were repainted with a fresh coat of ochre yellow in '06. Hopefully the cyliner chest was repainted back to a shiny maroon over the disgusting plum color it had.
